The Oregon Titans 14A Gonzalez team made an impressive 8-game run at PGF Nationals, in Irvine, California.
In pool play Game 1, the Titans dropped a tight 1-0 ball game to the SoCal Athletics. Three Titans pitchers combined to give up only 1 run, but the offense couldn’t get going against a tough Athletics pitcher who only allowed 2 hits over 5 innings.
In pool play Game 2, the Titans lost again, this time 11-4 to the Easton Preps Ventura team. Offense was still hard to come by for the Titans, but Megan Smith managed to reach base safely 3 times, scoring two runs for the Titans. However, Easton Preps was able to hang 11 runs on the two Titans pitchers.
In pool play Game 3, again the Titans came up short on the offensive side. This time only pushing 2 runs across. Select Fastpitch was able to pound out 7 runs and hand the Titans their 3rd loss in as many games, 7-2.
Things turned around a bit as bracket play began. In their first bracket game, the Titans faced the Lil Rebels RC Marshall and were able to put together a 10 hit performance that also netted them 10 runs. Abigail Loomis tossed a no-hitter to give the Titans a 10-0 victory.
Game 5, saw the Titans slip a bit and take a 5-2 loss to Batbusters Shockey/Whieldon. Heather Ebner was able to collect 4 hits, while Hannah Ebner and Stella Puckett chipped in 2 a piece. But it wasn’t enough as the Batbusters managed to plate 5.
Game 6, the Titans squeaked out a tight ball game against the California Cruisers Villalobos, 5-4. The Titans slightly out hit the Cruisers 8-7 with Hannah Jensen and Tayha Degrande carding 2 hits each. Abigail Loomis picked up the win in relief, throwing 5 shutout innings.
Game 7, yet another close game. The Titans were able to just get by the Firecrackers Sewell/Bordeau with a 4-3 win. The Titans made the most out of their 5 hits and were able to get 4 runs. That was enough for Abigail Loomis, who went 7 innings and held the Firecrackers to just 3 runs, for the victory.
Game 8, the Titans run came to an end with a 9-0 loss to the California Cruisers Caouette. The Titans managed only 3 hits on the offensive side against a tough Cruisers pitcher. Loomis took the loss, with Hannah Ebner finishing up the game in relief.
